Abraham Lincoln was a self-taught lawyer. He had no legal education and passed the bar verbally- administered by a judge, not by written examination.
Advice Lincoln gave to someone who wanted to become lawyer but had no access to higher education. "Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing."

After the Civil War's end, on January 31, 1865, the House of Representatives passed the proposed 13th amendment to abolish slavery.
The nearly 4 million black men, women, and children held in slavery in the United States at that time, were still NOT free! The 13th amendment had to be passed on the state level in 3/4 of the states. (27 of the 36 states)
On December 6th, 1865, Georgia became the 27th state to ratify the 13th amendment making it officially apart if the United States Constitution.
Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, he did not survive to see the 13th Amendment ratified.
In June of 2012, 20th Century Fox released a feature titled, "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter". The fictional-action-fantasy-horror film grossed $116 million worldwide. Rotten Tomatoes scored the film 34% out of 100% and movie goers gave it a little more love at 50%.
Abraham, Lincoln once defended a man in court accused of murder. The townsfolk had fathered damning evidence including eye witness and forensics against his client. The jury were itching to "Hang him" when Abraham dramatically proves the "victim" was in fact... alive! The supposed victim had wandered off to a neighboring town after a spell of amnesia.
Lincoln was the first president to be photographed at his inauguration. John Wilkes Booth (his assassin) can be seen in the picture.
