Symbols & Stories

Crowned in peonies and dressed in the hand-embroidered work of the Otomi people, Frida Kahlo is painted in the indigenous clothing she chose for herself. Seven symbols fill the canvas, including the “F” pendant for the German name her father brought to Mexico and the heart-and-dagger charm for her painful marriage, decoded by the key packed with every print.
